Self Help Africa formally marked it's 25th anniversary at a reception hosted by Irish President Mary McAleese at her Dublin residence Aras an Uachtarain, and with a reception for guests and supporters at London's House of Commons.
Both events took place in October 2009, and were held to coincide with a programme of fund-raising events and activities that were held by supporters in both Ireland and the UK.
The receptions marked the 25th anniversary of the start of Self Help Africa's work, which followed the Ethiopian Famine of 1984.
President McAleese paid tribute to those who worked in overseas development, and said that Ireland had to be greatly proud of the many people who worked to improve the lives of the poor and the disadvantaged around the globe.
